Project 3 Home & Garden
Project 3 including Over View, Goals Articulation, House and Garden, wood Burning stove & Appendix 3
Over view
The home and garden project is different in that I have been working for some years on both; after my permaculture
design course, I have looked with new eyes using the collective intelligence of the group at the projects still to complete. I will show the work to date reflecting decisions and changes in thinking.
The house required much work including windows heating system, porch, kitchen, bathroom, car port, workshop patio doors, floor stripping, and tiling, plastering, painting and decorating.
The house needed a lot of work the garden had not been touched in 12 years and was described by the estate agent as an interesting wilderness garden.

When returning from working in the garden my wife Jo says that, I always look so peaceful and content, peace of mind is a great joy it makes the garden a very special place where time is meaningless and the moment is everything.

Goals Articulation
- The goals of the project are over a period to transform the home and garden in to a building that takes care of our needs with the minimum of energy inputs, with a long term plan to produce solar and wind power within the next 5 years. The garden provides vegetables, fruit and herbs combined with the allotment project and the introduction of live stock chickens, ducks and bees we will become self reliant for many of our needs.
- The garden is also a place for entertainment BBQ bonfires, relaxation, exercise, solitude and meditation.
- For permaculture to gain popular acceptance there must be good examples it’s not easy to create a community however I want to try. I live on a crescent made of 3 roads there is a small group of people who work together, we have many shared interests after starting my allotment project the adjacent plot became available, Dave and John are sharing that however we will be working on many joint projects a poly tunnel is at the planning stage, now it feels like a community allotment in the making.
- I would like to live in a cottage in forest by a stream and practice permaculture, this dream is shared buy many and only possible for a few. The alternative is to create some thing new, bring the best of forest to where I live re engaging with nature using permaculture ethics and principles to design the world I want to live in and share with those who want to join .
